Cambodia-Phnom Penh-part 1

it was always my dream to visit as many wonders of the world as possible...be it the medieval world, the modern world, industrial world...etc.

made my first step by visiting one of the man-made travel wonders of the world...angkor wat..

this was a 5 day 4 night trip..went by tour with my parents, since they said that we wont be able to understand their language and all,but if you wanna save money and time, just do a bit of revision about the place you wanna go,and i think travelling by yourself saves a lot more...

our tour for phnom penh was with 2 senior couples plus us 3...those 2 couples were from kuching..and of course..like my parents..no work to do..all retired..go here and there..sighs...now with air asia having rm 0 flights...more travelling...double sigh...a retired man's life...i wish....

Phnom Penh

our itinerary was 2 nights in phnom penh (the capital of cambodia) and 2 nights in siam reap (where angkor wat is)

ive finally come across a country whose traffic is so much more worse than msia's.cars come from all four corners of the road..and ppl seriously dont care about each another..they say if u wanna cross the road."cross with your eyes blindfolded" cause if not..you'll never get across the other side..

dad said that phnom penh was like msia 40 years ago...

for example...

see this bottles with liquid inside??i thought they were honey for sale...guess what??they are actually petrol for motorcycles..you get them a lot along the road side..

random facts-(from the tour guide)

12 billion ppl, their population..US dollar is widely use everywhere..even the small grocery stalls by the roadside...cambodian language is widely used..u can choose between english or french language in sch..most kids choose english..french is more popular among the senior ppl..but isnt so widely used anymore nowadays..

their taxis are like the ones you get in thailand..the "tut-tuts"

most of their new cars dont have number plates...their big and expensive cars are charged with a low tax rate...how?? before they are imported into cambodia..those brand new cars will be cacated..for ex..the will purposely scratch it,break the glass..etc..this is so that the cars will be declared as "cacated cars"or "second-hand cars" and their tax rate will be much much lower...smart???

u can see like 4 to 5 ppl on a motorcylcle..it is not a law to wear helmets yet in cambodia but starting from nxt year each bike is limited to only 2 ppl and helmets are compulsory..

dad opted to open a helmet factory in cambodia..lol..

1)royal palace
this is where the king of cambodia stays..he opens half the palace for tourists and the other half is for him..tourist guide said that this is to collect money since the king is very poor..the last very famous king of cambodia Norodom Sihanouk is now living in beijing,china..and his youngest son of 3 ,Norodom Sihamoni is now reigning in his sit..

pictures are not aloud inside..so this is just the outward view of the palace..notice the four faces build on the highest pinnacle..forgot what the four faces represents..but i think one was mercy??and righteousness??

2)silver pagoda
where the insides are all made of silver..and then there's this tomb outside where the ashes of the king is put together with his daughter..etc..remember the history books we use to crack our heads remembering about the Hinduism and Buddhism cultures..etc...well a lot were built based upon them..

3)killing fields
pls notice the security of regulation(for those prisoners)..dunno if u are able to read them clearly though...

will write them out here again..cause i find them really really interesting...

  1. you must answer accordingly to my questions-dont turn them away.
  2. dont try to hide the facts by making pretexts this and that.you are strictly prohibited to contest me
  3. dont be fool for you are a chap who dare to thwart the revolution
  4. you must immediately answer my questions without wasting time to reflect
  5. dont tell me either about your immoralities or the essence of the revolution.
  6. while getting lashes or electrification you ust not cry at all
  7. do nothing, sit still and wait for my orders.if there is no order, keep quiet.when i ask you to do something you must do it right away without protesting.
  8. dont make pretext about kampuchea krom in order to hide your secret or traitor.
  9. if you dont follow all the rules, you shall get many lashes of electric wire.
  10. if you disobey any point of my regulation, you shall get either 10 lashes or 5 stokes of electric discharge.

sighs....poor prisoners...

the prison..
a place where at least 2 million ppl were killed..use to be a former school made into a prison..

-notice the tree..that tree was use as a weapon to kill babies...the babies legs are grabbed by the soldiers and then their heads are smashed to the tree..(which some parts are seriously very very sharp)

-the white monument/building-(cant remember how many) skulls are placed inside that building..somewhat to protect the ppl...those skulls are the skulls of those who were killed...

-the prisoners from the prison(the school) are all brought to the killing fields to be shot,buried,killed..etc..

4)sunset cruise/russian market/central market

my bargaining skills has improved!!!lol...seriously me and my mum was bargaining kau kau...wanted to buy this bag..from 7 US we manage to get it for 2.50 US!!keng or not???but that one prob because we bought alot also la..keke

they have also stuff like fried bee,lipas,grasshopper..etc..

the sunset cruise reminded me of sarawak's river cruise...this was along the mekong river...

was listening very intensely to the tour guide during our visit to phnom penh...that's why can write so much story for u guys here...lol

gave up when i was in siam reap...too mesmerized by the architecture ..left the tour guide with those who don't have cameras..those who had them..lol..we were in our own world capturing pictures...but of course were updated a bit here and there by those who listened...

all those in part 2-siam reap
